Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue, Dr. Ishmael Evans Yamson, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to look beyond party affiliation in composing his government.
He has admonished the President to prioritise competence over loyalty to get the best from the appointees in his administration.
Speaking on Hot Issues on TV3 Sunday, March 09, 2025, the economist advised the President to appoint people who believe in his vision and are ready to make some sacrifices in making that dream a reality, rather than choosing people who contributed towards his election victory in one way or the other, without possessing the requisite competence to help him achieve his goal.
“The President must make sure the people he appoints share in his vision and values and not because they contributed to his electoral victory,” he stated.
His call comes at a time when Ghana needs a critical economic reset to set the tone for a recovery after years of what experts believe has been full of mismanagement due to the poor leadership by the erstwhile administration.
The government, in this regard, organised a two-day National Economic Dialogue at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Monday March 03, and Tuesday March 04, 2025, where experts contributed towards rebuilding a resilient economy for the country.
Dr. Yamson, who chaired the Dialogue, speaking on the Day One of the event called for the forum to be institutionalised to prove critics who said it is going to be another talk shop wrong.
According to him, “the institutionalisation of this process to advance your reset agenda will be key to success.”
“There are some who have already concluded that this is also going to be yet another talk shop and that there will be no follow through action, hence, the commitment and institutionalising the dialogue should be prioritised to take away this doubts,” Dr. Yamson urged.
