The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports that the Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has resigned from the board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
In a statement issued on Monday, September 29, 2026, the Ministry described the reports circulating on social media as false.
It said Mr Buah has not resigned from GoldBod and there has been no disagreement between him and the board.
According to the Ministry, the Minister initially served personally on the GoldBod board but subsequently nominated the Chief Director of the Ministry, Marcus Haligah, to represent him in January 2026.
It said the decision was purely administrative and was due to the Minister’s demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities at the time, when he was handling responsibilities across two ministries.
“This arrangement is consistent with the governance framework of GoldBod, which permits designated representatives to serve on the Board on behalf of members where applicable,” the statement said.
The Ministry said the recent clarification by GoldBod itself confirms that the Minister initially served personally but nominated the Chief Director to represent him because of his inability to attend board meetings regularly.
It urged the public and media organisations to disregard reports suggesting the Minister resigned or that his decision was linked to any conflict or dissatisfaction with the institution.
The Ministry added that it enjoys a good working relationship with GoldBod, noting that the Ghana Geological Survey Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GoldBod to intensify exploration, while the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme is also collaborating with GoldBod on responsible mining.

It said GoldBod is also working with the Forestry Commission on land reclamation and has supported the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat with vehicles.
The Ministry said Mr Buah remains committed to government’s agenda of strengthening Ghana’s gold sector, increasing local value retention and promoting responsible mining.
