Some delegates of the New Patriotic Party in the Asante Akyim Central of the Ashanti region have rebuked the Office of the Special Prosecutor for arresting one of the aspiring parliamentary candidates, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah.

Mr Nkansah, who is the Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) is being probed over an alleged sharing of money to delegates in his constituency.

Unhappy with the development, delegates in the area, though, have confirmed receiving their Christmas gift from all the three aspirants, they don’t understand why only Mr. Nkansah was invited by the OSP for questioning.

“I received some as well as my polling station executives. MP (Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi) gave us 300, Kofi 500 and Nana Agyemang 100, according to their strength. Yes, they all gave us and we collected it. Why don’t they call all the three and investigate them?” a furious delegate ranted to OnuaOnline’s Ibrahim Abubakar.

“He gave out Christmas gifts to everyone including delegates and non delegates. Whoever got close to him benefited so why should we classify it as a bribe? He didn’t give it to us as bribes to woo us for votes. He said it’s our Christmas gift. People are afraid because he is coming. We the youth are aware of his works,” a woman retorted.

According to one who spoke to our reporter, “Mr. Ofosu Nkansah gives us Christmas gifts every year. It is not bribe. The MP also distributed cash but that hasn’t come out.
The guy has a good idea to help the party and the people of Asante Akyem Central. He is ready to help us the delegates to propel the NPP.”
