Asante Kotoko have announced that the first team will return to competitive football after the funeral of fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, who was brutally murdered after a Ghana Premier League game.

The funeral for the deceased fan, popularly known as Nana Pooley, is scheduled to be held on Thursday, March 6.

Addressing the press in Kumasi on Monday, February 24, Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku expressed satisfaction with the steps taken by stakeholders so far in getting to the bottom of the ardent fan’s murder.

“In view of the foregoing, therefore, and with the mandate of the IMC, I will like to declare that based on happenings so far, Asante Kotoko SC shall be ready and willing to return to the pitch after the burial and the final funeral rites of the late Nana Yaw Frimpong, alias Pooley, and we hope that our supporters and all of you out there will agree with us,” lawyer Sarfo Duku said.

Nana Pooley lost his life after he was stabbed near the Prof Amoah Koramansah II Park in Nsoatre after a 1-0 win by Nsoatreman FC.

There was an in-game brawl that saw referee George Mawuli Vormawor show the red-card to three players – Asante Kotoko’s Justice Blay and Mohammed Camara and Nsoatreman’s Stephen Diyou.

It was after the highly-tensed game that Nana Pooley was stabbed to death.

So far, six persons including the bankroller of Nsoatreman FC and the former Employment Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuahm have been arrested, facing charges of manslaughter.
