Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko are now three points behind leaders Heart of Lions after a 2-0 victory over Bibiani GoldStars SC on Friday, December 27, 2024.
The Matchday 15 game, played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, saw the hosts leapfrog the visitors in the league, albeit on the same points.
Two goals scored in each half of the game secured the Porcupine Warriors’ second place on the log.
Defender Samba O’neil’s goal-bound header in the 22nd minute was punched out by a GoldStars defender, resulting in a penalty for the Porcupine Warriors.
Justice Blay stepped up to convert the penalty, giving the hosts a first-half lead.
New signing Kwame Poku scored in the 73rd minute to double the lead for Asante Kotoko and seal the victory against GoldStars.
Kotoko’s next game will be an away fixture against former champions Medeama SC, while GoldStars will return to Bibiani to welcome Berekum Chelsea to the DUN’s Park in their next match.
