The Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu Ababio, has been invited to participate in the events marking the funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II. But he will not be able to attend.

The new Monarch of the United Kingdom, King Charles III sent a special invite to the Asantehene through the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom following the demise of his mother.

But unfortunately, Otumfuo will not be able to attend the funeral.

This follows a release from Manhyia dated September 15, stating his inability to honour the invitation.

“His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will not be able to attend the events marking the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Official communication sent to His Majesty’s Household and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office dated September 15, 2022,” the release indicated.

The invitation detailed the Asantehene was to attend the funeral with his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu.

The royal couple were to attend the Lying-In-State of the Queen, the King’s Reception, the Funeral Services by the State as well as the Reception by the Foreign Affairs Secretary.

The reason for Otumfuo’s inability to attend the funeral was not stated yet.

Queen Elizabeth II passed on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

A state funeral for the queen is to begin today, Monday, September 19 before her internment.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese; New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern; and Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, have all confirmed their participation in the funeral according to the CNN.
