At Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region, three persons who posed as police officers during the district level elections Tuesday, December 19, 2023, have been arrested and remanded into police custody.

Prosecution indicate the three persons were located at the Sawaba New Site polling stations A and B acting as officers monitoring the ongoing polls.

The suspects, 37-year-old Zakari Yakubu; 24-year-old Godsway Fiakodzo, and Ibrahim Zack, 26, were dressed in black outfits with body jackets, pepper sprays, jack knives, and five pairs of handcuffs.

The three young men who wore bullet proof vests were arrested after the police suspected them of impersonation. Their two motorbikes were impounded in the process.

They were processed for court immediately by Inspector Frank Osae, the investigator, and his superiors following their arrest.

At the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court, the three were charged with “falsely pretending to be public officers” and were subsequently remanded into police custody.

The case has been adjourned to January 6, 2024.
