The Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigation Department, through an intelligence-led operation, has arrested a 25-year old suspect, Emmanuel Boateng, on 9th June,2025, for offences including impersonation and defrauding by false pretenses.
The unemployed young man has been on the police wanted list for sometime now.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, on 10th June,2025, said the suspect was apprehended at his hideout in Amangoase ,a suburb of Nsuta .
He disclosed that, investigations have established that he impersonated Mr Bright Appiah, a registered traditional herbalist and CEO of Nana Kofi Herbal, located in Nsuta.
He said by assuming Mr Appiah’s identity, the suspect defrauded unsuspecting clients of various sums of money.
“As part of his fraudulent scheme, suspect, Emmanuel Boateng manipulated videos shared on social media by replacing the original contact numbers of Mr Bright Appiah with his own numbers, 0551624074/0552902830/0543717154/0538011831 thereby misleading members of the public who sought herbal services,” he said.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect has defrauded individuals both locally and international, including victims in Ghana, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and other countries.
DSP Ahianyo said the Police Service is continuing its investigations and urged the public to exercise caution when engaging with individuals online.
“Members of the public are advised to be vigilant and to verify all contact details before engaging in financial transactions. Suspicious activities should be reported to the nearest police station without delay,” he advised.
