The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has held a crucial meeting with the Regional Health Director , Dr Fredrick Adomako Boateng, to address the current state of healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

The meeting comes amidst the ongoing strike by nurses and midwives, which has significantly impacted service delivery across hospitals and clinics in the region and the country as a whole.

The strike has resulted in a substantial disruption to healthcare services, leaving many patients without access to essential medical care.

Dr. Amoakohene has expressed worry about the impact of the strike on the region’s healthcare system and stressed the need for a swift resolution to the impasse.

The meeting, held Thursday, June 12, 2025, aimed to identify solutions to mitigate the effects of the strike and ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of Ashanti.

In addition to addressing the strike, the meeting also discussed other pressing public health concerns, including maternal and child health, and preventive strategies being implemented to protect the public against the spread of Mpox.

He emphasized the importance of remaining alertness and vigilance in detecting and reporting symptoms of the disease.

Mpox symptoms to watch out for include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, and muscle aches. Early detection and prompt reporting to health authorities are critical in preventing the spread of the disease.

The Regional Minister expressed confidence that the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) will soon reach a gentleman’s agreement to resolve all outstanding issues.

The collective goal, he stressed, is to restore normalcy in health facilities and ensure uninterrupted care for all.

Dr. Amoakohene appealed to all stakeholders to work together to find a solution to the impasse and prioritize the safety and well-being of every Ghanaian.

The Regional Minister’s call for support for health workers is timely, given the critical role they play in the healthcare system. The ongoing strike has highlighted the need for better working conditions, improved remuneration, and increased support for health workers. By prioritizing the welfare of health workers, the government can ensure that the healthcare system is equipped to provide quality services to the people.
