The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, says President John Dramani Mahama deserves credit for restoring urgency to the work of government and accelerating development across the country.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the 4th Bono Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards on Friday, September 19, 2026, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said Ghana is showing signs of recovery after years of severe economic instability.
“The economy grew by 6 per cent in the second quarter of this year and inflation stood at 5 per cent in August. We are also seeing considerable activity in infrastructure across the country,” he stated.
He disclosed that government has committed approximately GH¢4.12 billion to road projects covering about 252 kilometres in the Bono Region alone, including the Jinijini-Sampa corridor, Wenchi-Nsawkaw-Debibi-Sampa, Berekum-Seikwa and the Sunyani Outer Ring Road.
According to him, the investments are critical for the region’s agricultural economy. “A farmer who spends less getting produce to market keeps more of the value of what he produces.”
Mr Asiedu Nketiah praised President Mahama for personally inspecting projects and putting pressure on implementers, noting that Ghana has lost too much time through delays.
“When a road that should take three years takes eight or ten, the farmer, the trader and the business that would have benefited have also waited those additional years,” he said.
He cautioned against the political culture of abandoning projects started by previous governments, saying a serious country cannot start afresh every four years.
The NDC Chairman also urged government to think beyond construction to value addition, particularly processing, storage and market access for agricultural produce in Bono.
