The release of the long-awaited list of nominated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for the Ashanti Region has stirred controversy, particularly in Asokore Mampong.

President Mahama’s selection of Ben Abdallah Alhassan over Asawase Constituency Chairman Faisal Dauda has sharply divided opinion, reigniting political rivalries and raising concerns over party cohesion.

A group of concerned Asawase members, at a press briefing, praised the decision, calling it a reflection of President Mahama’s “commitment to inclusive governance and empowering capable leaders dedicated to community development.”

They expressed confidence in Ben Abdallah’s ability to deliver, stating, “His leadership will embody accountability, transparency, and inclusivity.”

However, a youth faction within the municipality rejected the nomination, labeling it an “imposition”. They claimed, the ‘sidelining’ of the constituency chairman could deepen divisions in Asawase.

Amid the tensions, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene urged unity, appealing for support for all presidential nominees to ensure smooth governance.

The MMDCE nominees must now secure confirmation from their respective assembly members, a process that will determine the fate of the nominees.
