Some residents of Mpatasie in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region have expressed fear over missing royal ornaments and regalia that have been with the community since time immemorial.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on Tuesday, April 21,2026, residents say they fear a calamity will befall the community if the missing artefacts are not returned to the town’s stool house.

An opinion leader and member of the royal family, Mr. Kwadwo-Bi, in an interview with Sir John said the ornaments went missing after the chief of the community, Nana Kofi Asante Amorben, stormed the community’s black stool room to forcefully remove the main black stool, a move against cultural norms.

“The black stool, per tradition, is not supposed to come out in the day.

However, the chief, in an attempt to relocate it, broke into the room in broad daylight to bring it out,” he said.

“This very incident came after the Asantehene had warned the chief to allow the stool to remain in the black stool room,” Mr. Kwadwo-Bi added.

Mr. Kwadwo-Bi noted that the chief has flouted the Asantehene’s Great Oath, calling for an immediate investigation into the matter.

“We invoked Otumfuo’s Great Oath on him to stop him from removing the black stool, but he showed no respect to the Great Oath,” he stated.

Kwadwo-Bi has also revealed that the chief has for over five years refused to install a queen for the community although they have eligible candidates.

He noted that all attempts to get a queen for the community have been blocked by the chief.

Cultural Historian at Manhyia Palace, Sarfo Kantanka, described the situation as worrying to the Palace and the community.

He said, several incidents of missing traditional stools from palaces in Ghana have been reported recently, creating significant tension and Cultural distress, particularly Ashanti and Bono Regions.

He said, in Akan tradition, these stools are sacred, believed to contain the spirits (Sunsium) of past chiefs and ancestors, making their disappearance a serious spiritual and security concern.

“Black Stools are not just seats; they are considered spiritual intermediaries between the living and the ancestors. The stool represents a chief’s authority, leadership, and the legitimacy of the royal lineage”, he added.

He said, Asantehene, has over the years, expressed deep concern about the missing stools.

He urged chiefs to enhance security in their palaces to protect these vital Cultural relics.
