The Awutu Senya West District Assembly has arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly defrauding people who are putting up structures in the district.
The suspect, Emmanuel Gyaesu, has posed himself as the District Engineer and has been demanding ransoms from people who are developing their properties in the area.
An interview by Onua News’ Nana Yaw Asare with the Acting Head of Works at the District, Robert Obeng Gyasi, revealed that the suspect used to work with the district National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO) but was expelled for similar reas ons somewhere in 2018.
He explained that Gyaesu, upon his arrest, had printed out a fake receipt with the Awutu Senya West district inscribed on it to demand building permit fee from land owners who are putting up buildings.

The Acting Head of Works disclosed that they found it tedious arresting the suspect due to his familiarity with the terrain but managed to get hold of him this time around and handed him over to the Awutu Bereku District Police Command for investigations.

“It is not just one complaint but many. The problem is that he is a native of Awutu Senya so he knows the terrain. I heard he used to work with NADMO somewhere 2017 and was dismissed for similar reasons so he knows the terrain more than those of us who have come from elsewhere to work here.
“When we arrested him, we realised he has acquired a receipt for himself and written Awutu Senya West on it which he has been using to dupe people,” he explained.
He added that they have contacted some of his victims who have expressed their willingness to testify when he is arraigned.
“That’s the evidence we have now and some of his victims have assured us that they will come and testify in court,” he added.
Mr. Obeng Gyasi advised persons fond of such acts to desist from it since the assembly is on high alert to get them arrested.
