African leaders have never been decisive, but have always been controlled by other leaders elsewhere, Hassan Ayariga, the founder and flag bearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), has stated.

He says leaders in Africa are devoid of independence to act on their own, indicating they are always manipulated by others.

Ayariga’s comments stem from President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill otherwise known as the Anti-LGBTQ/Gay bill.

With barely four weeks to the elections, Hassan Ayariga says he does not foresee the President signing the bill.

Ayariga has been saying that there are some forces that are controlling the President which is making him not sign the bill, adding that he believes the President might be benefiting directly or indirectly from not assenting to the document to become a law.

Speaking on Onua FM’s afternoon current affairs show, Asɛm Bɛn Ni, Friday, Novemver 08, 2024, he urged the President to sign the bill to affirm Ghana’s position as a country that values and promotes culture and morals.

Hassan Ayariga was questioned on whether the victory of Donald Trump will make any difference on the President’s lackadaisical attitude towards signing the bill, considering the fact that the Biden-Harris administration which are pro-LGBTQ has lost the U.S. elections to Trump who was and will be the biggest anti-gay president in the world.

It was believed that President Akufo-Addo feared of the consequences that would befall his administration should he assent to the bill, due to the position of the government on the practice.

Ayariga, in his comments, bemoaned the manner with which LGBT is being promoted through movies and other means in the country.

“Decisive leadership has always been a problem for African leaders. They are always being led by other leaders somewhere. They are always controlled,” he told Captain Smart, adding that he doesn’t see Akufo-Addo signing the anti-gay bill because of some unforeseen forces that are manipulating his position on the bill.

“I don’t think Nana Akufo-Addo has any intentions of signing this bill now. Do you think if he has any intentions he would wait till 7th December? There are some forces controlling him,” he stated.

He went ahead to admonish the President to sign the bill “because we are a country of tradition. Why is he delaying in signing something he should have done two years ago? It means he is benefiting from something on it somewhere.”
