Renowned economist, Andrews Kwame Pianim, has described the Effiduase/Asokore lawmaker, Nana Ayew Afriyie, as a nation wrecker.

He has described him as such for his comments that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government will not stop illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’.

The legislator had indicated during one of the campaign launch of the NPP in one of the constituencies that the government was not going to stop galamsey because they will lose their seats if they do so.

He said that those doing galamsey in the country had been transported from foreign countries into the country by the opposition NDC, just to give the government a bad name.

The Chairman of the Health Committee of Parliament said the NPP wants to win the election and stopping galamsey means they’re going to lose their seats in the mining communities.

But according to the leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) the negative impact of galamsey on Ghana’s environment threatens human lives, and any attempt by any person to encourage it makes the person a nation wrecker.

He has vowed to personally storm Ayew Afriyie’s constituency to campaign against him if he doesn’t retract his comments on the canker.

The Statesman believes that persons in the character of Ayew Afriyie do not deserve to serve in Ghana’s Parliament.

He continued that if per chance, persons who make such pronouncements are named for any appointments, they will give the said appointing authority every reason to revoke the nomination.

“I’ve heard Ayew Afriyie saying they’ll not stop galamsey today or stop it tomorrow. If he doesn’t change his mind, some of us will be there to tell the people to vote against him. Anybody who wants to continue the way things are is a nation wrecker and we should not vote for him. He has no business in Parliament, he has no business in any official position.

“And if anybody comes, they propose him for Parliament, we’ll go to the Parliamentarians and tell them to vote against him. They propose him for chief executive, we go to the council and and tell them to reject him,” he said on Accra-based JoyNews Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
