Godfred Yeboah Dame, the former Attorney-General (A-G), has asserted that the press conference held by the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, as a reaction to justify his reaction of cases involving former NDC government officials.
According to him, the A-G is only indulging in a knee-jerk approach to the genuine concerns raised by a section of Ghanaians after dropping high-profile political cases meant to whitewash members of the NDC who are involved in such cases.
“I deem the press conference hurriedly assembled by the Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine, as a knee-jerk reaction to genuine concerns raised by well-meaning Ghanaians on the attempt by the NDC government to whitewash the crimes of persons who served in the NDC government,” he stated.
At a press conference organised by Mr. Dame Friday, February 14, 2025, he described the recent development as a deliberate move to grant perpetual immunity to some of its allies by shielding them from accountability.
He said these persons have indulged in high-profile cases against the state and should be held accountable for their deeds.
“The President, through his Attorney-General, has in a spectacular fashion, become the clearing agent to indemnify their allies who have duly been put before the courts for commission of crimes,” he added.
Dame continued that Dr. Ayine’s posture presupposes political loyalty supersedes accountability and undermines the democratic and governance structures of the country.
However, he expressed confidence that Ghanaians would see through the government’s motives, stressing that public scrutiny and condemnation of these actions would not fade easily.
“I am, however, reassured by the fact that Ghanaians are discerning enough to discover the illegitimate motives for the discontinuance of the cases in question,” he said.
