Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the Ghana Armed Forces to uphold professionalism and ensure a peaceful election come December 7, 2024.
Speaking at the 2024 graduation ceremony of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, the Vice President underscored the importance of the military’s role in maintaining peace during the election period.
Addressing the graduates of the Senior Command and Staff Course 45 and recipients of the Master of Science in Defence and International Politics, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for the Armed Forces and other security agencies to utilize their training and expertise to prevent any form of violence during the elections.
He acknowledged that while Ghana has a history of conducting successful elections, there have been instances of violence in certain areas, which underscores the need for vigilance and professionalism.
“As we approach the December 7 general elections, it is crucial that our security services remain committed to their duty of safeguarding the peace and security of our nation. I urge all of you to apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired to ensure a violence-free election,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Strengthening Bonds and Enhancing Development
Dr. Bawumia, who also serves as the Chairman of the Ghana Armed Forces Council, encouraged the graduates to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation with their fellow officers and students from other African nations. He highlighted the importance of these relationships in complementing the efforts of policymakers to achieve developmental goals.
“The relationships you have built here will be invaluable in fostering collaboration across borders. By working together, we can address common challenges and contribute to the development of our respective countries and the African continent as a whole,” Dr. Bawumia added.
A Proud Tradition of Excellence
The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, since its establishment in 1963, has been instrumental in producing professionals who have gone on to make significant contributions to the development of Africa and beyond.
This year’s graduation ceremony saw 98 officers from Ghana and 16 other African countries complete the Senior Division Course 45. Additionally, 38 individuals, including private sector professionals and government workers, were awarded the Master of Science in Defence and International Politics degree.
The Vice President expressed confidence that Ghana will once again demonstrate to the world its commitment to democracy and peace through the successful conduct of the 2024 general elections.
“I am hopeful that, with your support and dedication, Ghana will make the world proud once again after the December 7 elections,” Dr. Bawumia concluded.
As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, the call for a peaceful and orderly process resonates strongly, with the Ghana Armed Forces playing a pivotal role in ensuring the security and stability of the country during this critical time.
