Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, is admonishing Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, to assert his authority as leader of the group vetting the ministerial nominees.

He says the actions of the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, on the committee, is becoming untoward and should be guarded against.

According to him, Ahiafor’s leniency to the Minority in order not to appear to be bullying their representation on the committee with their numbers is being taken for granted by Afenyo-Markin.

His comments on the back of the three ministerial nominees who appeared before Parliament’s Appointment Committee on Monday, January 13, 2025, to be scrutinised for the respective portfolios they’ve been designated for.

In a post on his Facebook Monday, the vociferous Professor of Political Science reminded the Akatsi South lawmaker that he is the Chairman of the Appointments Committee and should make that reflect, either than allowing Afenyo-Markin to have a field day.

“Dear Bernard Ahiafor, in as much as you must guard against what Aristotle call “Tyranny of Majoritarianism”, you must be firm in asserting your authority. Afenyo-Markin must not have a domineering field day on the V.C. You are the Chair, Please!” he posted.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament commenced the vetting of the three ministers-designate named by President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, January 13, 2025.
