A 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate from Nyagli Junior High School in the Upper West Region, was rushed to the labour ward moments after she entered the examination hall on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The expectant mother is said to have begun contractions in the middle of writing the Science paper, which was the first for the day.

The incident happened at the Wa Senior High School Examination Centre in the Upper West Regional Capital, Wa.

Headmistress of the School, Asheeka Latif, who confirmed the incident to 3news.com, said she earlier had an engagement with all the candidates ahead of the paper in the early morning.

According to her, a few minutes into the start of the science paper, she was called to attend to her pregnant candidate who was in labour.

“When I came, I realized that she was actually ill, so we had to rush her to the hospital. So currently, we are told that she’s still at the early stages of contractions, and she’s under monitoring at the hospital”, she narrated.

When asked about the state of her exams, the headmistress said, “Now that she has not yet delivered and she’s still in the hospital, We are arranging with the exam supervisors for the paper to be sent to the hospital for her to write. That is if she’s still in a good state to write,”.

Asheeka expressed optimism about seeing her student join her colleagues on Monday to write the remaining papers.

“But we hope that with the subsequent papers, by close of the day, if she has delivered, she’ll be coming back to write the rest of the papers”, She added.
