A 23-year-old commercial motorbike rider, Baffour Kwakye, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Bekwai Circuit Court for sexually assaulting five-year-old boy at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

Kwakye was convicted after the trial had begun and pleaded guilty. According to the prosecution led by Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum, the victim, the accused was a Class One pupil who lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim.

He told the court that Kwakye sent the victim on an errand on May 6, 2025, and later lured him into his room under the pretext of watching video content on his phone. It was there that the offence occurred.

The little boy informed his mother, Akosua Kisiwaa, who also reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Manso Nkwanta.

A subsequent medical examination was conducted, where the abuse was confirmed, leading to the intense search for the convict by the police.

Kwakye was arrested on July 20, 2025, at Manso Nkran in connection with an unrelated theft case. Upon learning of the outstanding defilement report, he was handed over to the authorities at Manso Nkwanta.

In his caution statement, he admitted to the offence.

After concluding the trial, the presiding judge, His Honour Isaac Appietu, sentenced Kwakye to 120 months imprisonment.
