The skeletal remains of an 85-year-old woman, Obaapnin Adwoah Takyiwaa—popularly known as Adwoah Gonja—have been discovered in a bush near Camp 15 in the Bia East District after she had been missing for nearly four months.

According to local sources, the elderly woman, who was a mother of six (three sons and three daughters), was reported missing several months ago.

Her remains were found earlier this week by a group of hunters who had gone into the forest. The hunters were alerted to the location by the persistent barking of their dog. Upon investigation, they discovered human skeletal remains believed to be those of Madam Adwoah Takyiwaa. The hunters immediately reported the finding to the elders of the community.

Speaking to the media, Nana Osei, the Okyeame (linguist) of Camp 15, confirmed the incident. He stated that traditional leaders (Nananom), the local Police Commander, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the site to retrieve the skeleton after traditional rites were performed.

A libation was poured at the scene, invoking peace for the soul of the deceased. “We prayed that if her death was natural, her soul may rest in peace in Abraham’s bosom. But if it was caused by foul play, may those responsible not escape justice,” Nana Osei said.

At the time of reporting, the police have not confirmed the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether there was foul play.

The discovery has shocked the community of Camp 15, with many residents expressing sadness and concern about the safety of the elderly, especially in rural areas.

Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the disappearance and death of Madam Adwoah Takyiwaa to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
