The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Bright Asamoah Brefo, has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Alfred Obeng-Boateng, for certain comments he allegedly made that has an element of bribery in it.

A viral tape on social media indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP has pledged to give each delegate in the constituency, a whooping GHC20,000.00 to induce them for their votes in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primary.

The NDC candidate on the back of the alleged tape is calling on the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the MP for making those comments.

He says the intention to pay bribes to the delegates is a crime and has called on the OSP whose functions include investigating corruption and corruption-related matters as mandated by the Attorney-General through the OSP Act.

“The MP has to be investigated by attempting to bribe delegates. This is a wrong act and needs to be addressed with an immediate effect,” he indicated.

According to him, the constituency lacks development in health, sanitation, roads and many areas whereas the MP is only thinking of how to win votes by bribing delegates. He lamented how “Sehwi Bekwai have no public toilet, the state of their clinic is an eyesore.”

“Bibiani Government Hospital and the Maternity Ward lacks beds, nursing mothers are lying bare on the floor. If you are the Member of Parliament of this constituency and you are not sensitive about the plight of the people and then you are only thinking about winning an election, but wining an election is a means to an end,” he noted.

He alleged that “this man is saying that the last primaries he influenced the delegates by paying GHC3,000.00 to the delegates and because of that he succeeded in getting the nod from them and this time round he is going to do same. He is going to make sure that the dollars that he has accumulated, he is going to use it to influence the delegates. We have so many challenges in this constituency.

The NDC candidate went ahead to urge the delegates to take the money when given by the MP but vote against him afterwards since he has nothing  better to offer them as a their representative in Parliament.

“The delegates should take the money but refuse to vote for him since he (Alfred Obeng) is only interested in retaining power and not providing development to the people of Bibiani Anwiaso,” he added.
