14 suspected gunmen have been arrested, and a cache of weapons and ammunition seized following a cordon and search operation by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Ghana Police Service in the Binduri district of the Upper East region.
The operation, conducted between the hours of 3:30pm to 4:50pm on Sunday, June 15, 2025, forms part of intensified security measures aimed at restoring calm in Bawku and its surrounding areas, which have been plagued by clashes and intermittent gunfire.
The 14 arrested have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and prosecution.
Bawku and Binduri districts have recently become a volatile area as over 14 people have been shot dead, several houses set ablaze within one week –between Saturday, June 7, and Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Several others were injured and have since been hospitalised at various hospitals in the Upper East region.
