Tension remains high in the Binduri district of the Upper East region following a gunfire incident at the Binduri township near Sarabogo where the exam centre for the ongoing BECE is located.
The attack, which reportedly began around 10pm on June 7, 2025, was reportedly carried out by some two feuding factions in the area.
The situation has led to deterioration in security in the area, with many offices not operational, while some shops remain closed.
The BECE candidates are gripped by fear as sporadic gunshots continue to echo from the conflict zone.
Eight people have lost their lives between June 7 and 11, comprising a community chief, his wife and five others, with others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The situation has left both students and teachers in fear, with a call for security presence at the examination centre.
Some parents withdrew their wards from participating in the exam with the fear of being shot, but were later convinced by the school authorities who had to hire a bus to convey the candidates to and fro the exam centre.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant as efforts are being made to de-escalate the situation.
