Evelyn Badu’s first-half header was the difference as the Black Queens recorded their first win under Swede manager Lars Kim Björkegren.

It was a cagey friendly at the Stade Lat-Dior between the two West African sides, who used the match as part of preparations for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

But the Ghanaians made their early incursions count after Princess Marfo had beaten her marker to send an inswinger, which was well connected to by Badu for the opener.

With no more goals, the match took a different turn as it became more physical getting to the end of the first half and early in the second half.

Anasthesia Achiaa received her second yellow card in the 64th to reduce the numerical strength of Björkegren’s charges.

But the Queens responded immediately as Doris Boaduwaa’s strike from a solo run clipped the crossbar.

It appeared there would be no more goals other than the one scored by Badu in the first half.

An attempt by the Senegalaese to equalize with 10 minutes to end proceedings also came off the cross bar.

The game ended 1-0 in favour of the Black Queens.

It is the team’s first win under the Swede, who expressed happiness after the game.

“This is professional football and you’re always happy when you win [and] for us the most important is to win the game.”

The Black Queens will again play with the Teranga Lionesses on Tuesday April 8 to wrap up their training tour in Senegal.
