The Black Satellites are out of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), losing 5-4 on penalties to hosts Egypt in the quarter-finals.

The Satellites had forced Monday’s game at the Suez Stadium into extra-time after nicking two injury-time goals in each of half of regulation time.

Egypt had taken advantage of communication lapses in Ghana’s defence to score two quick goals through Moemen Sherif.

But pressure from the four-time champions paid off, first through Abdul Aziz Issah in the first half and through Abdul Sulemana from the spot after 90 minutes.

The 30 minutes of extra time produced no goals as referee Shamirah Nabadda ushered the match into penalties.

Member of the Group Stage XI Dacosta Antwi failed to convert the second kick for Ghana as he became the only player to miss a kick.

The Egyptians march to the semi-finals and will face Morocco on Thursday.

They have also qualified for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled for Chile later in the year.
