Led by the Bono Regional Director of the Department of Children under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection; Mr George Yaw Ankamah, the Bono Regional Child Rights Protection Committee (R.C.P.C) paid a courtesy call on Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II on Wednesday 11th June, 2025.

The objective was to brief him about the activities of the committee and their roles in the lives of children in the Bono Region including Sunyani the Regional Capital.

Mr George Yaw Ankamah wished Nana well on his enthronement as the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and expressed optimism about Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II’s impact on children as has been visible in the Chief’s efforts toward redeeming the Sunyani Children’s Park to promote children welfare and happiness.

Mr Ankamah emphasized the need to be intentional about the welfare of children and further expressed his excitement in having a Chief who had children’s interest at heart.

Mr George Yaw Ankamah took the opportunity to invite the Paramount Chief to grace a special event that will be held in commemorating the 2025 Day of the African Child which would be held at the Sunyani Children’s Park on Monday 16th June, 2025.

“The theme for the event is Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights – Progress since 2010” he mentioned.

In his remarks, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, appreciated the RCPC for their kind visit and reiterated his call on ensuring that Children rights are to be protected under all circumstances if indeed Ghana was to move forward.

He stressed that a country that has no clear intention in upholding the interest of children cannot have any better plans for adults, hence the reason why pensioners are not given any proper care and attention.

Nana stated that in his reign, he will take personal interest in affairs of children and issues that bother them. He further warned he would not take it lightly on those that mistreat children and try to deny them what belongs to them.

Some of the Directors who were part of the visit expressed their joy on the seriousness that Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II attached to issues of children and wished him well in his reign as the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area.

The RCPC consists of Directors and representatives of several governmental and non-governmental organizations such as the Department of Social Welfare, Ghana Prisons Service, Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Department of Gender, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Friends of Health (FOHA), Sunyani Youth Development (SYDA), Ghana Health Service and others.
