The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has returned items seized from former CEO of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab.

The items, which include £6,700, GH¢2,750, two laptops and six mobile phones, were seized from Hanan, his wife Hajia Faiza Wuni, and their driver, who are standing trial for alleged financial crimes against the state.

Some of the items were seized during investigations in 2025, while the money, one laptop and two phones were taken on July 4, 2026, when Hanan was arrested at the airport and detained for four days.

The release follows protest by lawyers for the accused at the last hearing on September 29, 2026.

Lead counsel for Hanan, Godfred Yeboah Dame, had told the court that the trial could not commence without the return of the items, arguing that the phones contained evidence critical to the defence.

“The phones contain information necessary for the conduct of the trial and related to matters that are central to the subject matter of the proceedings,” he said, adding that they needed them to “enable the first accused prepare adequately for his defence, including raising objections to documents to be tendered by the prosecution, in accordance with Article 19(2)(e) and (g) of the 1992 Constitution.”

Counsel for the second accused, Augustine Obour, also requested the release of his client’s gadgets. The court, presided over by Justice Francis Achibonga, agreed that the prosecution could not call its first witness until the application for the release was determined.

EOCO subsequently released the items on Monday, October 5, 2026.
