Two Hundred and twelve (212) pupils from four basic schools within the Sandema municipality in the Builsa North district of the Upper East region have been diagnosed with vernal conjunctivitis, Dental caries, skin infections, and many others out of a total of 936 pupils screened.

A Non-Governmental Organization, Johnny and Friends Care Ghana organized the free health screening for the pupils as part of efforts to ensure a healthy community.

Pupils between the ages of two and nine years were screened by a team of medical professionals made up of pediatrics, ophthalmic, dental, ear, nose, and throat nurses.

The Chief Executive Officer of Johnny and Friends Care Ghana, Johnny Atibire through his representative Arimiyaw Mahama, thanked the teachers from the four schools for cooperating well with their entity for a successful health screening and that, the health care of children is a cardinal peak for their organization.

Mr. Arimiyaw Mahama said “taking health care closer to the vulnerable in the society has always been their target of operations over the years and coming to the Builsa North municipality is something the organization is proud of.”

He added, “over the years, our organisation has organised a blood donation exercise with a lot of blood going to the blood banks of some hospitals to help in quality health delivery especially in the rural areas.”

The Upper East Regional Chief Anaesthetist and one of the members of the board of the NGO, Samuel Alogkora Akolgo said the organisation has positively impacted and has improved on the health care of the people in the Builsa North municipality and Builsa South district.

Mr. Akolgo has called for the provisions of basic health equipment to the various health facilities in the area because some of the facilities do not have these basic health equipment.

The schools that participated in the health screening are Akalgbong Rising Stars International School, Adventure International School, Success International School and Nabula School Complex.
