An abandoned bridge has killed a nine-month-old pregnant woman after she reportedly tripped off and fell inside a river.

The wooden structure which was supposed to be a temporary alternative to the main bridge has been used for years due to the abandonment of the main structure which has been under construction for almost a decade.

This is the fifth time a pregnant woman has died on the bridge in 2023 alone according to residents.

The bridge which links Twifo Mirekukrom to Twifo Agona in the Twifo Attimokwa district of the Central region has been abandoned on the deplorable road that connects the two communities for many years.

Work on the bridge waa started some years ago but been abandoned for some years now, killing pregnant women in the process.

About three other communities that share the bridge with the two others are all living in fear wondering the next disaster that will befall them there.

Their movement has been restricted following the collapse.
