Akpɛtɛshi (local gin/alcohol) consumers in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region have threatened a sit-down strike over the high cost of the product.

They have indicated their intentions to demonstrate against President Akufo-Addo if he does not order a reduction in the price of the product.

They complain also that the economic conditions have reduced the amount they consume aside from the increase in price.

The consumers complained on an Accra-based FM station. According to the consumers, they could acquire some with just one Cedi but cannot do same currently.

The skyrocketed price beyond their dreams is what they say has necessitated their intentions to embark on a sit-down strike.

They complain further that no amount can satisfy them anymore, a situation which has become worrying for them.

They have asked government to reduce the price since the Russia-Ukraine conflict has nothing to do with the cost of akpɛtɛshi.

“Now we can’t buy it like we used to. Earlier we could buy with one cedi but now we can’t. Nana Addo reduce the price else we will go on strike. We will demonstrate against you. This is not about Russia and Ukraine. Akpɛtɛshi is produced right here in Ghana,” they lamented.
