A driver has been shot in the arm by suspected armed robbers on the Gomoa Akoti – Kwanyarko highway in the Central region.
Apart from the driver who has been hospitalized at the Swedru Government Hospital, several other victims of the highway robbery attack also sustained machete wounds and had their valuables and cash stolen from them.
According to an eyewitness who offered an account on the incident, highway robbery is becoming an increasing trend in that highway particularly in between Suromanya and Asamoakrom.

Scores of passengers were injured in the process and have been rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
“That is the exact spot the armed robbers usually attack people. They come around almost every month. Yesterday we heard they have come around and when we rushed to the scene, they had shot one driver’s arm and fled. They also shot two riders.
“The driver who was using ‘Toyota Fish’ also fled into the bush and when he came out, he told us they have taken his car. We had stopped the car in town so we came to check if the robbers were those occupying it but the occupants were passengers who had been severely injured by the armed robbers.
“Some were weeping, complained of their stolen monies with blood oozing from various parts of their bodies. Police came around and we moved the car to the Kwanyako Police Station and the driver was taken to hospital,” eyewitness Amos Quansah, narrated to our Central regional correspondent, Akwasi Addo in Twi.
