The decomposed body of a 22-year-old charcoal seller has been found hanging in an abandoned public toilet at Gomoa Obiri in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

Information gathered by Onua News, Nana Yaw Asare, revealed that the deceased, Kobina Gyata, 22, got missing for about three months in the community.

A search by the Gomoa Obiri community together with other nearby communities proved futile. The residents suspected the deceased had gone to nearby villages to purchase charcoal.

According to reports, the young man had committed suicide in an abandoned public toilet which is at the entrance of the Gomoa Obiri Community when they last conducted a search for him.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Yaw Asare, the chief of Gomoa Obiri, Nana Apoh Bondam V, explained that, a client of the deceased gave the him about GH₵3,000.00 to supply her charcoal which he failed to do. The client then threatened to seize all his bags of charcoal which made him flee.

According to the chief, the entire community thought he had traveled to nearby villages to buy charcoal as he usually does. All efforts to get him on phone proved futile only for them to see his decomposed body hanging in an abandoned public toilet in the community.

“We believe he committed suicide to curb the disgrace associated with spending the woman’s money without supplying her the charcoal,” the chief indicated.

According the the chief, this was the first time such incident has happened in Gomoa Obiri community.
