Government will today, Thursday, May 14, 2026, decide on the report of the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC).
It will be done at a special Cabinet meeting to be chaired by President John Dramani Mahama.
Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who made the disclosure says the Government has already prepared a draft position paper after an extensive review of the report by the Attorney General and the President’s legal team.
According to him, President Mahama had earlier directed that the report be scrutinised to guide the Government’s position on the proposals made by the CRC.
He says the review by the respective teams have been completed, awaiting Cabinet’s decision on the recommendations.
“So Thursday, 14th May, there will be a special cabinet session chaired by the President himself to consider the draft position paper,” he said on Joy News.
He explained that the Government’s response on the proposals will be hinged on the outcome of the special Cabinet meeting to be held today.
Following the meeting, the approved document, according to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, will be made available to the public to learn of the Government’s position.
Unlike a Commission of Inquiry, the CRC, Kwakye Ofosu explained, requires a position paper from the Government instead of a white paper.
The Abura Asebu Kwamankese lawmaker pointed out that once Cabinet approves the document, Government will move to the next stage of implementation, including the setting up of an implementation committee.
He added that the proposals will be assessed individually, with some expected to be accepted, others modified, and some rejected based on feasibility and other considerations.
He added that the government will engage the public further once Cabinet concludes its deliberations.
