The matter involving the Super Eagles’ seeming abandonment at an airport in Libya has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board.

The Nigerian national team had to return home following several hours at an airport they were directed to by Libyan authorities.

The team was en route to Benghazi for the second leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Nigeria beat Libya 1-0 in the first leg last Friday.

But after being stranded for several hours, Nigeria’s players and officials had to return home.

Captain William Troost-Ekong took to X to pour out his frustrations.

But Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reacted to the incident.

“CAF views the disturbing and unacceptable experiences of the Nigerian National Football Team (“Super Eagles”) at an airport in Libya in a very serious light,” the continent’s football-governing body said in its communication.

It added that it has been in constant contact with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities after learning of the situation.

“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
