The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyepong, has issued a strong warning against the spread of misinformation within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), particularly concerning payments related to foreign missions.
Speaking at the end-of-year interdenominational religious service held at Burma Camp in Accra, Lieutenant General Agyepong expressed concern about the increasing circulation of false information among officers and soldiers.
“It is worrying how misinformation is finding its way into the Ghana Armed Forces. These false narratives are deliberately intended to create disaffection, mistrust, and disunity among our officers and men,” he stated.
The CDS urged personnel at all levels to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it, warning that unverified claims especially those circulating on social media and other informal platforms could negatively affect discipline and morale within the military.
“I want to caution all officers and soldiers to fact-check information before passing it on. The spread of unverified information has the potential to undermine discipline, morale, and cohesion in the Armed Forces,” he added.
Addressing welfare concerns, Lieutenant General Agyepong assured service men and women that the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces remains committed to improving their living and working conditions. He acknowledged the accommodation challenges faced by personnel and said measures are being put in place to resolve them.
“We are fully aware of the accommodation challenges confronting our personnel, and I want to assure you that leadership is taking concrete steps to address these issues,” the CDS said.
According to him, significant improvements are expected from 2026, with plans underway to construct more than 2,000 housing units across military garrisons nationwide to ease the housing deficit.
“By 2026, we expect to see a major improvement in accommodation, with over 2,000 housing units to be constructed across all garrisons,” he disclosed.
The CDS further revealed that the Ghana Armed Forces intends to leverage its internal expertise and technical capacity to venture into various income-generating enterprises to support operations and welfare programmes.
“We plan to use the expertise within the Ghana Armed Forces to venture into income-generating enterprises that will help support our operations and improve the welfare of our personnel,” he noted.
Lieutenant General Agyepong also assured the general public of the Armed Forces’ readiness to safeguard Ghana’s territorial integrity and maintain national security, while cautioning against the spread of false information about the military.
“The Ghana Armed Forces remains fully prepared to protect the territorial integrity of our country. However, the spread of false information about the military is harmful to national security and public confidence,” he emphasized.
The end-of-year interdenominational religious service is an annual event organised by the Ghana Armed Forces to offer prayers, thanksgiving, and reflection, while fostering unity among personnel as the year comes to a close.
