The Ghana cedi was trading at GH¢11.3838 to buy and GH¢11.3952 to sell against the US dollar on Monday, 6 July 2026, according to rates published by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Against the British pound, the cedi bought at GH¢15.2042 and sold at GH¢15.2206, while against the euro it bought at GH¢13.0218 and sold at GH¢13.0347.

The Bank of Ghana said it remains well placed to cover seasonal foreign exchange demand without undue stress on the currency.

Speaking at the 130th Monetary Policy Press Briefing, Governor Dr Johnson Asiama said the Bank has sufficient currency buffers to meet market demand, describing the recent pressure on the cedi as temporary.

He attributed the seasonal demand to dividend payments and higher demand from the energy sector, and urged calm, saying the Bank is in a strong position to prevent excessive volatility.

Dr Asiama stressed that the cedi’s movement is an endogenous variable, adding that appreciation or depreciation is normal, but excessive volatility is what the Bank watches closely.

He noted that the cedi has shown strength so far, having appreciated by more than 40 per cent last year, and remains resilient despite some pressure in recent weeks.
