Two people lost their lives and eight others were injured in a road traffic crash at Dompoase near Komenda on the Cape Coast–Takoradi highway in the Central Region in the evening of July 31, 2026.
The Komenda Fire Station rescue team was dispatched and arrived at the scene, where personnel found a Toyota Hiace (registration AS 6145–24) that had collided with a broken-down truck (registration GN 2491–14).
Two occupants of the Hiace were trapped inside the vehicle. First responders extricated one of the trapped victims, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. A second fatality was also confirmed.
Preliminary reports indicate ten people had been travelling in the minibus.
Eight other occupants suffered varying degrees of injury, three of them critically, and were taken to the Elmina Polyclinic by the National Ambulance Service for treatment.
Central Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service, Assistant Division Officer I Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said the crash followed an attempted overtaking manoeuvre by an unidentified vehicle travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.
The Hiace, travelling in the opposite direction from Cape Coast towards Takoradi, reportedly swerved to avoid the oncoming vehicle and collided with the broken-down truck.
ADOI Wasiu Hudu urged motorists to exercise patience and extra caution on the roads to help prevent similar tragedies.
Investigations into the circumstances leading to the collision are ongoing.
Earlier, a member of the Public Relations team of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO 1 Alex King Nartey confirmed the incident to Onuaonline.
“Around 18:55, our team received a call about the accident. So, immediately we dispatched our team from the Command Fire Station to respond to the incident. And they said the incident happened at Dompoase on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway. Our crew got there quite quickly because they were quite close,” he said.
“One of the victim’s body got dismembered,” ADO1 Nartey revealed.
