An accident at Nantwibuw on the Winneba to Apam highway in the Central region has claimed the lives of three pupils and a taxi driver.
The students from the Uncle Rich and St. Paul basic schools were reportedly home from school around 4pm on Monday, June 23, when another vehicle collided with the taxi they were on board.
A Toyota Rav4 with registration number GN 5507-18, according to eyewitness account, collided head-on with the taxi registered CR 748-20 when the Rav4 attempted a wrongful overtaking.
The driver passed away on the spot after the crash, taking emergency officers strenuous efforts to extricate his body from the damaged vehicle.
One of the pupils also died on the spot, while two others died while on admission at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, raising the death toll to four.
Two other pupils who survived the crash are receiving treatment.
