The Chereponi District Assembly has supported 36 young entrepreneurs from the district through the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) to empower young entrepreneurs and strengthen the local economy.

The NAP, a policy by the government to combat unemployment and foster economic growth, provides young Ghanaians with practical skills and entrepreneurial opportunities.

In Chereponi, this initiative is particularly crucial, given the district’s historical context and developmental needs.

Historically, Chereponi has faced numerous socio-economic challenges, including tribal and land disputes, access to education, poor road network, inadequate infrastructure and high rates of unemployment. Predominantly an agricultural area, the district has seen its potential constrained by traditional farming practices and a lack of diversification in economic activities.

According to the District Chief Executive for Chereponi, the government has prioritized Chereponi as a key area for targeted interventions, with the NAP playing a central role in this strategy.

The thirty-six beneficiaries, selected from various trades including tailoring, carpentry, hairdressing, and masonry, have received essential tools and equipment tailored to their respective fields. These resources are intended to modernize their operations, enhance productivity and increase their capacity to generate income.

During the handing over ceremony, Chereponi District Chief Executive Amadu Kofi Sheini emphasized the importance of this initiative for the district’s future. He appealed to the beneficiaries to utilize the tools effectively and contribute to the overall development of Chereponi.

“This is an opportunity for you not to only improve your own livelihoods but also to drive economic growth within our district,” he stated. “I urge you to embrace this support, work diligently, and develop your skills to the fullest potential, the continues existence of this programme depends on how you utilize the tools you are receiving today” he added.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and optimism about the future.

Ramatu, a young tailor from the district, shared her excitement: “With this new sewing machine, I can now take on more orders and train other young women in my community.

“This is a dream come true for me.” Similarly, Abdul, a carpenter, noted, “The tools I have received will help me expand my business and create employment opportunities for others in Chereponi.”
