The management of Stonebwoy has refuted claims by disc jockey DJ Lord, that Stonebwoy’s team compelled him to stop playing Shatta Wale’s songs during the recent Guinness Accravaganza concert.
DJ Lord in a series of tweet on X, April 1, 2025 claimed that after playing Shatta Wale’s song back-to-back at the event, he was approached by an official of the event who said Stonebwoy’s team had expressed unhappiness with the playing of Wale’s song, requesting that he stops playing Wale’s songs.
DJ Lord asserted that the act is “disrespectful and unprofessional” for DJ’s.
“During my DJ set alongside Merqury Quaye, I included some essential tracks of Shatta Wale into our playlist , an artist whose music forms the backbone of any Ghanaian musical experience. The crowd’s energy confirmed we were on the right track.
“Until a top Board official of the show intervened. At the behest of Stonebwoy’s management, I was instructed to cease playing Shatta Wale’s music immediately. Can you imagine? Given my background as a DJ, this is obviously disrespectful and unprofessional,” he noted.
In a post on X, April 1 responding to the tweet, Stonebwoy’s manager, Chief Stylz Abiola, debunked the claim.
He questioned why DJ Lord, who confirmed that one of the event organisers walked up to him and said Stonebwoy’s team would not be happy with him playing Shatta Wale’s songs would then conclude that the decision was sanctioned by Stonebwoy and his management.
“Just got off the phone with DJ Lord and he admitted it was a lady from the organisers that walked up to him to say Stonebwoy’s team will not be happy with him playing Wale’s songs. And just like that you run with it c’mon bro, think!” he said.
Defending his stance, DJ Lord stated that he did not fabricate his claim and insisted that what he shared on social media was the truth.
He emphasised that the event organiser explicitly told him that Stonebwoy’s team was not comfortable with him playing Shatta Wale’s songs.
“I have been faultless all my years in this industry, and I have no reason to fabricate stories. The Guinness representative explicitly relayed to us, verbatim from her phone that ‘Stonebwoy’s team wasn’t comfortable with the Shatta Back-to-Back. I’m simply sharing what occurred,” he stated.
