Reports reaching 3news indicate that many people have been trapped under rubble after a storey building collapsed at Adenta New Site.
Reports say residents and bystanders have rushed to the scene and are attempting to rescue those trapped beneath the debris while awaiting the arrival of emergency response personnel.
The incident occurred in the evening of June 3.
Onua News’ Joseph Ackah Blay who was at the scene reported that the trapped persons were rescued and sent to the hospital.
Eyewitness indicated that one of the victims died before being removed from the debris. Two of the victims who were saved were rushed to the hospital.
One of them contended that the collapse of the building was caused by water from the heavy downpour earlier in the day.
A statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service stated that the one-storey building comprising ground and first floor apartments collapsed during the heavy downpour, trapping some occupants beneath the debris.
“Prior to the arrival of the Ghana National Fire Service rescue team from National Headquarters, two (2) persons had been rescued and conveyed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing, with Fire Service Rescuers working diligently to locate and rescue a woman and a child believed to be trapped in the collapsed structure,” the statement noted.
