An unidentified number of victims of communal conflict who were fleeing the communal conflict around Gbenyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah region have died after a boat on which they were crossing the white Volta around Dinie-Tuonbo enclave into neighboring Côte d’Ivoire capsized.

According to Mahama Zakaria, Savannah Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), six of the victims were rescued with an unidentified number still under the water.

A search party has since been deployed by NADMO to retrieve the remaining persons.

Several hundreds of victims fleeing the conflict are still stranded at Dinie.
