The Court of Appeal is expected to rule today, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, on the Attorney-General’s application seeking a stay of execution of its decision acquitting and discharging former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

The Court of Appeal in July 2026 overturned the 10-year jail sentence handed to former Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.

Sedina was acquitted after the court ruled that the former MASLOC CEO should not have been sentenced, as the prosecution could not prove the charges levelled against her.

In April 2024, an Accra High Court handed Attionu a 10-year prison sentence with hard labour after finding her guilty of causing financial loss to the state.

She was convicted of 78 counts of offences, including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering.

Following the acquittal by the Apellate Court, the Attorney-General filed an application seeking to suspend the execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment pending the determination of the State’s appeal.

The State argues that allowing the acquittal to take immediate effect could create an opportunity for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu to leave the jurisdiction, potentially making it difficult to pursue the appeal.

The Attorney-General is therefore asking the Court to suspend the acquittal ruling until the further appeal is determined by the Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeal’s ruling today is expected to clarify whether the acquittal and discharge will take immediate effect or remain suspended while the State pursues its appeal.
