The Minority in Parliament is demanding that Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, brief the House on the resurgence of COVID-19 cases at the University of Ghana.

The call follows the university’s recent directive for students to observe COVID-19 protocols amid rising cases, which the Minority claims has spiraled out of control, sparking fear and panic nationwide.

The Minority caucus wants to avoid a repeat of the 2020-2021 COVID-19 crisis, which overwhelmed hospitals and claimed lives.

They’re urging the Minister to be transparent with Parliament about the current situation, keeping the public informed about the virus’s resurgence.

Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, speaking on the floor Friday, June 27, 2025, expressed the need to get the sector Minister to the House to address members on the state the deadly virus.

“We don’t want to go through what the country went through some time back, so let’s make hay while the sun shines. And I place this call right in front of the respected leader of the house that we should make an arrangement and get the sector minister to come and do the needful,” he stated.

On his part, Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurudeen Muhammed Mumuni, noted that: “It is a very important issue that we need to get the Health Minister to respond and update the country as to whether COVID is back or not.”
