The defeated candidate in the presidential primary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Yaw Anokye Frimpong, has said that the results of the internal polls conducted by the party was manipulated.

For that reason, he has refused to congratulate the winner who has now been declared the flag bearer of the party in the upcoming elections.

Speaking with TV3’s Joseph Amstrong Gold-Alorgbey after the polls, Dr. Anokye Frimpong said that the election was rigged by the Electoral Commission, for which reason he cannot congratulate the winner.

The historian added that he will not recognise Madam Kumankumah as the party’s flag bearer considering the level of rigging that took place in the course of the election.

According to him, if one contests an election “and you lose fairly, it’s so easy to congratulate the winner. If you are robbed by the referee, how can you congratulate the winner?”

When asked by Amstrong, if by his response he will not congratulate her, he said “you get it from the answer I’ve given to you.”

On the question of if “you recognise her as your flag bearer?”, Dr. Anokye Frimpong said “I’ve already answered you. By not recognising the entire results as a genuine reflection of what we toiled for.”

Meanwhile, the historian who is also a private legal practitioner says he is not considering a court action on the results but intends to serve Ghana in a different capacity.

“I’ll never do that. I’ll have to look for an alternative way of serving mother Ghana, an alternative way of projecting whatever ideals that I have,” he stated.

On whether he would still be a member of the CPP or otherwise, the lawyer said “let me answer by telling you that, the December 07 election will not be a CPP election. It will be a Ghana election and I’m for Ghana.”

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) officially declared Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah as its flag bearer after emerging winner in the party’s presidential primary.

At the end of the Wednesday, September 05, 2024 elections, the total votes cast were 1,360.

Out of that, Dr. Yaw Anokye Frimpong secured 586 while Madam Kumankumah garnered 763 with 11 rejected ballots.

Addressing the media after her election, Nana Sarpong Kumankumah said “once one person has won and especially when it is so decisive, we only need to have unity moving forward.”
