The Cyber Security Expert Association of Ghana (CSEAG) has called for full transparency and accountability from MTN Ghana following a recent cyber security breach affecting approximately 5,700 customers.

The breach, according to the Association, has raised concerns about the potential involvement of insiders and the need for robust security measures.

In a press release issued on Sunday, May 4, 2025, and signed by the President of CSEAG, Abubakar Issaka, the group urged MTN to cooperate fully with regulators, including the Cyber Security Authority and the Data Protection Commission, and to share findings transparently with both authorities and the public.

The association has again emphasized the importance of investing in skilled cybersecurity professionals and prioritizing cybersecurity at the executive and board levels.

“We expect MTN’s leadership to cooperate fully with regulators and share their findings transparently,” said Abubakar Issaka, President of CSEAG. “Cybersecurity is not merely a technical concern, it is a core leadership responsibility.”

The CSEAG has also advised MTN customers to remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves, such as updating mobile and banking apps, using stronger passwords, and desist from sharing sensitive information such as passwords, to third parties.

The incident has highlighted the need for collaboration between industries, government, and civil society to strengthen Ghana’s cyber defences and rebuild confidence.

The CSEAG has pledged to support efforts to improve cybersecurity in the country.
