Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party, has rejected the assertion that Ghana’s recent economic turmoil is peculiar to the country.
According to him, the phenomenon is global, having learnt of similar concerns from many places including advanced nations.
He says in his recent trip to Canada, he observed that the rising cost of living due to the five-fold inflation is affecting the even the most advanced economies.
As part of his tour to the Central Region, Dr. Bawumia told the clergy in a meeting that the government is putting in efforts to address the challenges confronting Ghanaians.
“It is very clear that the cost of living has gone up across the world. Even when I was in Canada just a few weeks ago, there were similar complaints.
“There has been a major increase in the cost of living, and global inflation has increased fivefold, so there is a problem,” he noted.
The Vice President has also reiterated his readiness to cooperate with the churches to foster development if he becomes President, looking at the significant contributions the churches have made in the areas education, health and other sectors.
