A law lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Dr. Justice Srem Sai, has said developments stemming out of the allegations made against Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney-General, should be a cause for worry by every Ghanaian.

He says events that have come up since the occurrence of the matter even makes things worse, considering the fact that Mr. Dame is in charge of the Justice .Ministry in the country.

His comments come on the back of the allegations made against him by Richard Jakpa, to which the NDC have provided a supposed audio evidence to substantiate.

Speaking on News 360 Tuesday, May 28, the law lecturer who is also a private legal practitioner noted that the conduct of the Attorney-General puts into question, the entire justice delivery system under his care.

“A couple of things have happened since then which have even shown further that this is a very serious issue. And I think it’s a serious issue not just because of this case, but it’s a very serious issue which puts into question, the justice delivery regime under this Attorney General,” he noted.

Although the New Patriotic Party, according to Dr. Sai, has come out to defend Mr. Dame at a press conference, the A-G himself has not come out to deny the tape, adding that, based on commentaries from what has come up so far, “every Ghanaian should be worried.”

“It is serious and we all need to be worried because, when you put people before a court to be tried on criminal charges, you are putting the person’s liberties in the hands of a judge to determine whether the person will be free or not free,” he added.

Background

Richard Jakpa, the third defendant in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial alleged in court Thursday, May 23, 2024, that the Attorney-General had encouraged him to provide false testimony against Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson in the ongoing case.

The NDC, following the claims, released a 16-minute audio recording as evidence to support Mr. Jakpa’s allegations.

The recording purportedly captures a conversation between Godfred Dame and Jakpa, wherein Dame is alleged to have coached Jakpa on the statements to make in court, targeting Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at the press conference the party held Tuesday, May 28, explained that the tape depicted a coaching session aimed at influencing Jakpa’s court testimony.

However, in response to the NDC’s revelations, NPP legal practitioner Frank Davies addressed the press on the same day.

He argued that the tape contained repetitions, overlaps, and voice distortions, suggesting that the NDC had manipulated the alleged recording they presented.
