The Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, together with the MP for Yilo krobo, has cut sod for the construction of the Somanya–Dodowa Road and several inner roads in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo municipality of the Eastern region.
The projects are aimed at improving the deplorable road network in the municipality and adjoining communities, while facilitating economic activities and enhancing connectivity.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ampem Nyarko cautioned the contractors against shoddy work and urged them to ensure that the projects are executed according to the required standards.
He explained that under the government’s Big Push policy, contractors are paid promptly, within three months of submitting their certificates.
He therefore urged residents to actively monitor the projects and the progress of work, stressing that they have the right to question the contractor whenever the quality of work falls below the required standards.
The Asuogyaman lawmaker further assured the people that the Ministry of Finance would release funds promptly to ensure the smooth and timely execution of the projects.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Francis Akumatey, said the municipality was fortunate to have several of its citizens serving in government, a situation he said had helped in lobbying for more development projects for the area.
According to him, the municipality is gradually receiving its fair share of the national development agenda.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said most of the road networks in the Yilo Krobo Municipality were in a deplorable condition.
She commended the Presidential Advisor on the Economy, Seth Terkper, for his role in ensuring that the municipality benefited from significant development projects.
The Regional Minister expressed confidence that the completion of the road projects would improve transportation, boost agricultural activities and stimulate other economic activities within the municipality.
The Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, said the project was in fulfilment of a promise he made during the 2024 election campaign.
He said he had promised the electorate that, if given the mandate, he would lobby for the construction of the deplorable roads in the area to provide relief to residents.
The Paramount Chief of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Oklepeme Nuer Anorbah Sasraku, assured the Member of Parliament and the contractor of the traditional authority’s full support for the successful completion of the projects.
He called for continued collaboration between traditional authorities and government to accelerate development in the area.
The construction of the Somanya–Dodowa Road is being welcomed as a timely intervention that is expected to strengthen connectivity and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
Residents remain hopeful that the project will be completed on schedule and deliver lasting benefits to communities across the municipality.
